Whatever successes or short comings I had were of my own making, but it was real. I was a self made true rocker from the streets to the stage to the studio to the stores, with no help from daddy's friends & relatives and we rocked without the posing. We were in no way similar to each other and strongly resented any comparison.I wasn't pop singer, I was a rock singer and I wasn't a self righteous frosted hair perm boy with relatives who paved my way so I could steal songs from real artists and get rich off of ripping them off. I hated when people would note the resemblance between Jon Bon Jovi and me at the time and I didn't want to give the world any other reasons to compare me to the Golden Boy Johnny. My manager at the time wanted to sue his ass but we were doing well and were very busy with all the Atlantic developments going on that I didn't want to cause problems for our momentum that we had going at the time. A short time later we heard the chorus for our song "I'll be theeerrre for youuuu" as JBJs next big hit. I somehow felt like I was going to regret that, but we agreed to take a chance and trust him, so we gave Jon Bon Jovi the cassette that night and we never heard back from him. Johnny gave us this line of BS that if we gave him this tape he would take it to his uncle at Polydor Records and try to get us out on tour with him. So while our tape was playing, we sat at the table in the back with Sam, Jon Bon Jovi, Peter Aykroyd (Dan's brother) and Doc McGee, etc. I ran into Sam Kinison who asked me to come back to his table and hang out. The place was definitely digging the songs that night. We'd always pop on the song and listen for the sounds then we would watch to see if people were digging the songs. When we got there we gave the tape to Michael to put on the Bar's sound system, it was the classic "Is It Worthy" test for demos and mixes that a lot of bands used to gage their nights work. We left Paramount Studios in Hollywood with a cassette tape of rough mixes and headed straight for The Rainbow Bar & Grill on Sunset. We had just finished tracking a studio session that included our original song "I'll Be There For You". "It was back in the 1980's when Denny Holan and I were recording our pre-production demos for Atlantic Records with Merri Hoaxx. Joel's email can be read in its entirety below: On March 12, 2013, Bon Jovi released their 12th studio album, What About Now.ANOTHER MUSICIAN ACCUSES BON JOVI OF PLAGIARISM:Īfter posting a report by Chris Faraone of Boston Magazine in which Bart Steele accused Bon Jovi of ripping off one of his songs, Sleaze Roxx received an email from former Cats In Boots and Heavy Bones vocalist Joel Ellis claiming that a similar thing happened to him. Bon Jovi have been known to use different styles in their music, which has included country for their 2007 album Lost Highway. Their 2000 single "It's My Life", which followed a second hiatus, successfully introduced the band to a younger audience. In 1992, the band returned with the album Keep the Faith. After touring and recording non-stop during the late 1980s, the band went on hiatus following the New Jersey Tour in 1990, during which time Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora both released successful solo albums. The band's fourth album, New Jersey was equally successful in 1988. In 1986, Bon Jovi achieved widespread global recognition with their third album, Slippery When Wet. Phil X and McDonald both become official members in 2016. The band's lineup has remained mostly static during its history, with the only exceptions being the 1994 dismissal of bass player Alec John Such, who was unofficially replaced by Hugh McDonald, and the departure of longtime guitarist and co-songwriter Richie Sambora in 2013. Formed in 1983, Bon Jovi consists of lead singer and namesake Jon Bon Jovi (born John Francis Bongiovi, Jr.), pianist and keyboardist David Bryan, drummer Tico Torres, lead guitarist Phil X, and bassist Hugh McDonald. Bon Jovi is an American rock band from Sayreville, New Jersey. K-129 carried hull number 722 on her final deployment during which she sank on 8 March 1968. K-129's commander was Captain First Rank V.I. In January 1968, the 15th Submarine Squadron was part of the 29th Ballistic Missile Division at Rybachiy, commanded by Admiral Viktor Dygalo. The Wikipedia website states: "K-129 was a Project 629A (NATO reporting name Golf-II) diesel-electric powered submarine of the Soviet Pacific Fleet, one of six Project 629 strategic ballistic missile submarines attached to the 15th Submarine Squadron based at Rybachiy Naval Base, Kamchatka, commanded by Rear Admiral Rudolf A. With thanks to Svitlana Haverstock for linguistic advice. The picture is apparently loosely based on actual real-life events regarding the sinking in 1968 of the Russian submarine K-129. This is the Russian word for mother, not of itself an insult but so commonly combined with other profanities (see above) that linguists use matershchina, or just mat, as the umbrella term for profane language in Russian and Ukrainian. Yebat’ (ебать): To Fuck. Finally we get there! Most commonly used in the expression Yob tvoyu mat’ (Ёб твою мать): Fuck Your Mother! Or Vashu Mat’ (Bашу мать): Your mother, which is just the second half of its longer equivalent, and slightly less offensive. The Daily Beast counted no fewer than 25 blyat’s in a two-minute clip showing the remains of a Russian convoy destroyed near the town of Bucha. Its success comes from its multifunctionality-other words can be added in front, e.g., suka blyat’-to form limitless new insults that mean whatever you want them to. Khokhol (хохол): From an old Cossack surname (remember Nikolai Gogol?) that the Russians use as a nasty ethnic slur against Ukrainians: such as “Go home to Chernobyl, Khokhol!” (The Ukrainians have similar slurs for Russians, including Katsap, or billy goat, referring to old Russian men with beards.)īlyat’ (блять): Bitch, Fuck, Shit! Not the strongest but definitely the most common profanity heard in Ukraine battlefield videos, so if you only learn one Slavic swear word this should be it. The Ukrainians have a lot of words for it. Kurva (курва): Whore, Shit: Milder Ukrainian swear word, thought to have come from the Polish. PTN PNH (Путин, пошёл на хуй): Putin, go fuck yourself! Another anti-Putin message, seen scrawled in graffiti. Putin khuylo! (Путин- хуйло): Putin is a dickhead! Began as a football chant, but quickly became the rallying cry of Ukrainian resistance after the Russian invasion of the Donbas in 2014. Khuylo (хуйло): Dickhead. Often used with suka as an intensifier to form suka khuylo! What a fucking dickhead! Poshol na khuy (Пошёл на хуй): Fuck you! Another very popular, and rude, insult usually accompanied by a special hand gesture (your right hand palm across the middle of the left arm). Khuy is arguably the bedrock of Russian profanity, most commonly used in the expression “Idi na khuy!” (Иди на хуй!) meaning “go fuck yourself!” That was what the defenders of Snake Island told the Russian warship demanding their surrender on the first day of the conflict. Can also be used to mean something like “clusterfuck,” or an irreparably fucked-up situation, like Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. A derivative of “Pizda,” slightly less offensive. Pizda (пизда): Cunt. Another core Slavic insult, although it has ancient Indo-European roots, if that helps. Suka (сука): Bitch. A common insult across various Slavic languages, including Russian and Ukrainian. There’s also a diminutive, “suchka,” used as a term of endearment. Whatever option you choose, be sure to follow the nutrition plan that comes with one of the programs in your hybrid. That’s the one you should try first, as it offers the greatest chance of keeping you motivated. Indeed, a much better question is “Which option appeals to you the most?” Which hybridization option is best? That depends entirely on you and your individual preferences. Possibly the simplest option, this method entails following one program but swapping in similar workouts from another program.įor example, if you wanted to do a second round of P90X, you could swap its cardio and plyometric workouts for those from another program, like The Master’s Hammer and Chisel: Monday So if you were going to create a hybrid program using 21 Day Fix Real-Time and SHAUN WEEK: INSANE FOCUS, your first week might look something like this one: Monday Not only is such a strategy effective for increasing both strength and cardiovascular fitness, but it’s also simple to schedule and helps minimize your risk of overtraining and injury. The premise for that program was to alternate between cardio and full-body resistance workouts for 90 days to torch fat and build lean mass (a.k.a. The “flip-flop” method goes back to Beachbody’s roots and the original Power 90. The key is to give every workout your all, regardless of how long it lasts. If you’re used to the 30- to 60-minute workouts of 80 Day Obsession, the shorter workouts in 22 Minute Hard Corps might seem like cheating - until you actually do one and find yourself sucking wind. The same goes for the length of the workouts. Focus on intensity, not duration of programs and workoutsĭeciding how long you want your new hybrid program to last is completely up to you.įinding two or more programs that run for the same number of days (e.g., 21, 30, 60, or 90) makes scheduling easier, but it’s not necessary. The old adage of “Don’t try to sand and paint at the same time” was never truer than with hybrids.įigure out what you want to accomplish, and then find two programs designed to help you achieve that objective. Instead, select programs that have complementary goals. If you want 17-inch biceps and legs like oaks, combining a muscle-building program like LIIFT4 with an extreme fat-loss program like INSANITY might set you up for failure. Choose programs that offer compatible goals The lesson here is to try to combine programs that are designed for the same fitness level. If you’re a beginner, combining them might leave you frustrated - or worse, injured.Īlternatively, if you’re in stellar shape, you might not find the combo challenging enough to achieve the results you want. Choose programs that are similar in difficultyĪs fun as a Tai Cheng/ 6 Weeks of THE WORK hybrid sounds, the two programs were created for two very different fitness levels. We suggest you complete at least one round of one of your chosen programs before combining them to ensure that you are physically and mentally prepared for the added challenge that a hybrid workout schedule presents.Īt the very least, preview (i.e., fast-forward through) the workouts in both programs to familiarize yourself with their content and structure. In short, know what you’re getting yourself into. The same caution should extend to the creation of a hybrid workout schedule. Would you ever wake up one morning and decide to train with the Los Angeles Kings, knowing full well that you have no idea how to ice skate? That means not simply choosing a couple that “look good” at first glance.Ī little research and some careful consideration go a long way here. Creating an effective hybrid starts with smart program selection. It has now become ubiquitous as a way to interact with images on touch screens. It allows users to zoom in and out of images by pinching two fingers together or away from each other. Pinch to Zoom - This was a very novel interaction when introduced by Apple. Think of it as an interaction that allows for initiating other actions. Press and Hold - Press and hold interaction is most commonly used to rearrange apps on a phone's home screen. Think of swiping through images on your phone's photo library. Also for deleting content in a list.įlick - A shorter swipe of your finger. Swipe - A swipe is used for scrolling up or down long pages. Tap and Double Tap - Pretty much the same as clicking with your mouse. When you design for a native mobile application you have more possible types of interactions to work with. Look for some links to my favorites at the end of this article. They are similar to content blocks they’re reusable and you can mix and match them to build your app. Seeing how different apps used similar patterns opened my eyes to the issues I was experiencing with my app.ĭesign patterns are common in every type of design. I then took a step back and luckily stumbled upon a few websites that focused solely on presenting native mobile application design patterns. I hadn’t done much competitive analysis or research, but just dove in with my knowledge of using apps for years and designing countless websites. While testing the first prototype it just didn’t feel right. When I started my first native mobile app design project, I designed it too much like a website. The action sheet then presents a series of options for the user to choose from. They rise from the bottom of the screen after the user taps a button. The first thing you need to remember is that when designing a mobile application you aren’t designing pages, you are designing screens.īeyond that, here are some common mobile design elements you should become familiar with.Īn action sheet is similar to a pop-up alert. It’s helpful to understand these terms when starting to wireframe because it will allow you to better communicate with the development team. Mobile UI concepts and terminologyīefore diving in let’s take a moment to learn a bit about what makes designing for mobile unique.Įven though web design and app design are pretty similar, there are differences in how apps are developed, and that brings with it different names for some UI elements. In this article I’ll outline some things I’ve learned in order to help you transition from web design to app design. It’s important to leverage this knowledge and use established patterns while designing your mobile app. Swiping left or right to navigate through a photo gallery, for example. Most users are already familiar with design patterns that are unique to phones. Not to mention that you’ll have less space to work with! If you are creating a native app from an existing web product, you will have to translate an experience where the user uses a mouse and clicks around to one where they can tap, swipe and pinch-to-zoom to navigate. There are different terms and design patterns, and new modes of interaction. The process of wireframing mobile applications is similar to that of wireframing websites, but there are some key differences to be aware of. We cover the basics of mobile wireframing: design patterns that are unique to phones, common native mobile interactions, and tips for designing your app. but the thing is that if the poster spent some time actually trying to work out a strategic way to play the game there would be no problem. people play the game something happens and they come here and say it is so broken and need to be fixed and how Paradox are a bunch of fools. all you need to do is destroy the stations but everything has a counter. unfortunately it is very easy to counter. Wormhole is by far the coolest FTL around. If it doesn't, send your main fleet to crush the one they have trapped in your capital system. It will also distract the AI, and it'll probably pull back when it sees a fleet it can destroy. It won't stop them from jumping around, but it'll slow it if they have a large empire and many fleets. If you're bigger than them, split off as many fleets of corvettes as you feel like microing, and send them to their systems, destroying their wormhole stations and mining stations. A good player would position their station in such a way that, even if you can get to it before their fleet warps in, you probably won't be able to kill it before they are on your face.Īs for the OP, build stations with very little offensive capability and huge amounts of shields, armor, and point defense, and use the FTL trap. However, if you can't beat a wormhole fleet in battle, there's also no way to be in one of their systems with a station safely. Compared to warp or hyperlanes, you'll travel much slower between enemy systems, and a good player probably should be able to at least keep their fleet out of your hands. Click to expand.Wormhole has it's uses offensively, but it's definitely better defensively. When I went to check the fluid level, I noticed steam coming from out of the hole in the cap that the dipstick handle comes out of.so I assume the trans fluid was good and warm. So I rechecked after putting the car in drive with wheel chucks in the garage to put some load on the trans and heat up the fluid. Now, someone pointed out to me that the way I checked the fluid level was not great since I really didn't let the transmission warm up. It's fine my transmission fluid is fine!!!! Then I threw her in neutral, just like my service manual said, and checked the level. So I let my Chevy warm up for 20mins until the temp gauge started reading. I had to add a very small amount to bring it up to full.I could look down and see the fluid level. And just to set the record straight, when I got back from this latest test drive, I checked my power steering fluid and engine oil. I thought for SURE the fluid on the floor from when I put it up on the ramps was from the transmission. I'm short but found a stool and a welding glove I bought for just such an occasion. Two days later, I decided to try my hand at checking my transmission fluid myself. To my amazement, it worked!! I was able to shift into drive and pulled her in the garage, thanked my lucky stars and packed it in for the night. Throw it in neutral and rock the car back and forth. luckily a friend of mine texted me the answer. There I was parked on the opposite side of the road across from my house and no idea how I was going to get it back in the garage. I pull into my court and wouldn't you know it, it came out of drive and wouldn't go back in. Sometimes I would shift into to low thinking that it wouldn't try and shift then. After it's unsuccessful shift I would practically stop and it would go back into first. I did two loops around the sub still unsuccessfully trying to get it to shift into second. I kept driving it thinking maybe something just needed to warm up a bit more. Instead of shifting into second it would pop out of first as if to shift and then just free rev until I left off the gas. I packed in a few family members and off we went around the sub division. I let the car warm up for 5 to 10min and the ambient was about 55degF or slightly warmer. A week or so went by and then I topped off the power steering fluid (it didn't need much) and figured I'd take it for another spin since my power steering leak seemed to be minimum. There was more fluid leaking on the floor and I know some was from the transmission and some from the power steering again.I had cleaned it up when I first started the car and moved it out of the garage. I did notice that it seemed there were two puddles of trans fluid.maybe one was from the transmission?Ī few days later I put my car up on some ramps to investigate the leaks. Now, a little bit of background is that there was fluid all over my garage floor and I had to basically fully fill my power steering system, it's stock. Now I am not sure it's the one that came with the car but I'm sure it's a power guide two speed.Īnyway, I bought it at the end of August last year and I noticed the shifts getting rough near the end of the season.Ī few weeks ago I took it out for the first time, it was stored in my garage over the winter, and I test drove it around the sub. I have a 57 Chevy with a 2 speed powerguide. In addition, small camp stoves with one or two burners are usually all you need. In reality, we need very little to cook!
